Choosing the Right Job [INFOGRAPHIC]

So many people look at a job and a career as the same thing, but they are definitely not. A job is where you work. For example, you would say, “I work at Facebook.”  But a career is your profession, so you would say instead, “I am an engineer.”

Chances are, you won’t have your “dream job” right away because you’re probably thinking that a “dream job” is one that brings you tons of money and power. Having your “dream job” (and landing it) means so much more though!

If you are looking for a successful career, here is what you should be looking for in those first few jobs:

choosing the right job

Company Size

Look at company size as a networking opportunity! Basically, the more people you get to know on a personal level, the better chances you have for a successful career in the future.  If you decide to work for a large company, try to set a networking goal, it could be as simple as getting to know one new person each week!

Job Title

Don’t tale a job based on pay alone, check out that job title as well!! In the future, you are much more likely to get better jobs if you had a management or director attribute in your title.

Your potential isn’t unlimited; it’s limited by your job, actually.  The last thing you want to do is take a position that will hinder your future and limit your options. Many employers these days offer educational or advancement opportunities, so make sure your future one does by simply asking in the interview.

Some companies will allow you to work on specific, company-related tasks only.  But other places, such as Google, will let you whatever you want 20% or so of your time spent at work.  If you can find a position at a firm that is this flexible and allows your creativity to blossom and grow, then it can tremendously help you advance your career!

If you surround yourself with successful and bright entrepreneurs, then one can only imagine one day, they too, will be a successful and bright entrepreneurs. Surrounding yourself with these people is easier said, than done.  However, before accepting a job offer, take a look at your potential coworkers- are these the type of people you want to surround yourself with?

Working in an entertaining and fun environment will most likely you make you more productive than being in a boring and dull environment.  This may not make a lot of sense, but you are more likely to work harder and longer when you are having fun!

It is so important to work for someone who is fun, encouraging, and most importantly, still gets the job done. There will be times when you need something from upper management to advance your career or grow your skills.
